This year’s Summer Club was fully in person, meaning that we were able to have seven full weeks of fun with the kids! Every week of Summer Club was a little bit different, but every week was full of exciting games, crafts, and activities. The kids and staff had such a great time together!
The first week of Summer Club 2022 was held in the Hawkesville Community Centre from July 4th to the 7th. This week we were fortunate to have a playground directly outside the building, so the kids were able to spend lots of time playing outside. The talent show this week was a great success, with one participant even presenting an impressive magic show.
Weeks two and three were hosted in the Wellesley Community Centre; week one running from July 11th to the 13th, and week two running from July 18th to the 22nd. Both weeks in Wellesley were very hot, and Summer Club was happy to be able to cool down in the splash pad. We also made use of the local park and pavilion, playing grounders and drawing chalk pictures often throughout the two weeks.
The St. Clements Community Centre hosted Summer Club for weeks four and five; week four running from July 25th to the 29th, and week five running from August 2nd to the 5th. Summer Club week four was a quieter week, so we took advantage of this by doing a messy science experiment called "Elephant Toothpaste"! We highly recommend you trying it at home - https://coolscienceexperimentshq.com/elephant-toothpaste/
Summer Club week five was a very active group, and many of the participants played soccer baseball every single day! They were also a very fortunate group to have a Waterloo Regional Police Officer visit with a police car and knowledge to share with our campers. Both weeks also took part in obstacle course competitions at the park, racing to see who could get the best time. 19 seconds is the time to beat!
Our final two weeks were hosted at the Linwood Community Centre. Week six ran from August 8th to the 12th, and week seven ran from August 14th to the 19th. Summer Club week six was full of competition - taking part in both a minute-to-win-it and an egg drop contest!
Summer Club week seven was lucky to get to visit the Linwood library where we took part in a library scavenger hunt, got crafty, and even got to take home some cool invisible pens!
Each week, Summer Club was fortunate to have daily guest presenters come visit! We discovered different Library programs and activities with Erika and Jessica, learned about animal safety with Paula, created bean art mosaics with Margaret, and played instruments with Amelia! Summer Club ended every Friday with a visit from the Fire Department; who taught us about fire safety, allowed participants to try on their equipment, and cooled the participants down with their fire hose!
Summer Club 2022 was a great success, with so many new friendships formed, memories made, and freezies consumed. The Summer Club staff hope to see all of the amazing participants again next year :)
Sincerely,
